ROBODOG IS READY TO TALK
...new ground is being broken in the world of robotics. In
Paris, Frederic Kaplan of Sony's Computer Science Laboratory has given
Aibo, the robotic dog "a cognitive layer that sits on top of its normal
autonomous behaviour". Kaplan is confident this additional program will
produce a more communicative canine which will eventually be able to
acquire well-developed language skills and interact with people. For the
moment, the robodog can distinguish a red pepper from a red ball and
yell "pepperami". Aibo may not be ready for dinner parties yet, but it's
a start.
