They may be useful routes for other works, but not for children's books. I
want to get the books into the hands of children whose parents are not
already passing the memes on themselves.

This means writing books that (a) children will pick up on their own in a
library or bookstore, (b) that they will recommend to their friends, or that
(c) librarians or teachers will recommend to them.

Which means getting my books into school and public libraries, Scholastic
Book sales at school, and major chain bookstores.

Which means an old-style publisher, preferably a powerful one, who is willing
to promote the books. Or who responds to my own successful promotion.

Nouveau routes, like electronic distribution, print-on-demand, or vending
through amazon.com, or old-style self-publishing, are last resorts.
