They might be using a glass or metal master, or something.

Moreover, the life time depends on storage conditions, and how much
work you're willing to undertake to retrieve the content. CDs stored
in liquid nitrogen should be good for several kiloyears at least, even
if some of them might delaminate the coating (but you could still read
the pits with a proximal probe).
