I believe you are looking at this wrong. The study takes =existing= couples
where one is infected and the other isn't.

Your chances of becoming infected during the study are exactly the same as
if you didn't participate... if you recieve the placebo.

You have a better chance of avoiding infection in the long run if the study
gets done.

And you might get the vaccine instead of the placebo... and it might
actually work.

I don't see the downside.
