The kind of cognitive dissonance such extreme level contrasts causes will
only get worse with time. For those of us who try to ride the wave forward,
it will take more and more effort to bear in mind and comprehend the
motivations and over-all mind-set of those who haven't even made it to the
Enlightenment. It reminds me of the part of Egan's "Diaspora" where
interspecies translators had to copy themselves into incremental
interpreters, each one talking to the next to bridge the great gap between
the two end points . . .
