John M Grigg himself has written,
>Regarding the connection between church and state in Utah, I once saw a
cartoon(by a Mormon) that showed the church president looking at a newspaper
with a headline about him controlling the state legislature. He calls up his
secretary and tells her "tell the legislature to pass a resolution saying I am
not in charge of Utah!!" ;)

Chief Seattle tried to do something like that in what is now the State of
Washington.
Bill Gates will, of course, deny that he has resumed where cartoonists and
Indian Chiefs must all have abdicated.
I know because my mail program keeps playing abdication tricks on me.

BTW, have you read Chief Seattle's address?
