Actual violence is rare because most people are smart enough not to
push things that far, but the implicit threat is always there.
Example: You decide not to purchase the services the government provides
and so you don't pay your taxes, a few months later a man knocks on your door
telling you that your house now belongs to the government and you must vacate
immediately, you politely inform the man that you'd rather not. An hour later two
large men burst open your door and start dragging you out, you knock them to the
floor and stay put. They get out their chemical mace and spray you in the face,
you shrug it off, they get out their billy clubs and [...]
Question: Can you see any way for this escalation to end other than by your death
or your surrender? The government will never take no for an answer, they'll make
you an offer you can't refuse.
