The short version being that the Supreme Court has been busy re-delegating
a lot of acquired Federal power back to the States -- a very good thing
IMO. This will affect a lot more than just the BATF; most of the Federal
regulatory agencies could find their powers sharply curtailed if this
keeps up.
It would be interesting if the Federal government was rolled back to
its pre-Lincoln powers. While I would expect some States to remain
relatively oppresive as is their option, I would also expect some
traditionally free states to capitalize on the regulatory polarization
that would result. It certainly would be a major economic boon for the
state I like to call home.
