   IAN: Interesting point, and a quick scan
   of PubMed indicates that you're right about
   caffeine. In fact, Ritalin, also a stimulant,
   has been prescribed for depression. This may
   suggest that the association of suicide with
   SSRIs might be a result of interactions with
   serotonin, not a stimulating or "activating"
   effect per se. One study found that Prozac
   caused some without depression and with no
   history of suicidal ideation to suddenly
   become suicidal, so much so that some test
   subjects had to be taken out of the study:

   I think that this study was just published
   in: Primary Care Psychiatry, 2000 6(1). But
   there's not yet an abstract available for it.
