To me it would seem logical to catheterize say, the femoral artery, divert
a portion of the flow to an external cooling unit, and then reintroduce the
cooled blood to the carotid flow to the brain. Or alternatively, to locate
the cooling catheters mentioned in the original article in those same
carotid arteries. This would seem to focus the cooling precisely where
needed.

Of course, I lack the expertise to speak to the practical details required
to carry this off.
