Yes, it's about chemical (dis)balances.

Squashing this idea once and for all:

Committing suicide is _not_ a brave act. Clear?

It makes me very angry that Sasha was in the state of mind that
he didn't ask for help. He knew that he could have gone to any of
us for love and support, if he could see with some clarity around
him for that crucial moment. Something very strange happened
to our Sasha.

Even when I had my times of, as Damien so-aptly called it:
"bone-deep despair", I asked for help. Even being completely
isolated from everyone that I knew and in a foreign country and
terrified out of my wits, I had that tiny bit of rationality
to save myself.

This small bit of rationality has to be present inside oneself.
(I don't know how else to describe it.)
