I've just come back from the hospital tonight. I am a dad again as of a few hours ago (Lachlan James O'Regan, 9lbs, megalomaniacal glint in the eye), and again my wife & new child owe their lives utterly to modern medical technology. Nature be damned.
And Sasha has died.
No matter how maliciously we choose to wield our growing power over nature, we can never begin to approach in capriciousness and sheer mind-boggling indifference the actions displayed by nature herself. The sentient beings of our (near) future will look back at the historical cycle of life and death in humanity, and wonder that sentient beings in their past could retain their sanity under such conditions as these.
If we are really lucky, those (near) future beings will be us. Except for Sasha.
