I do a lot of work for a Canadian company formerly called "North
American Media Engines", now just NAME. The Canadians consider Canada
part of America, and will tell you so in no uncertain terms. In much
of the world people consider it typical U.S. arrogance to call "the
States" "America", when clearly America is much bigger than the U.S.

Main Entry: Amer-i-ca
Pronunciation: &-'mer-&-k&
Usage: geographical name
1 either continent (N. America or S. America) of the western
hemisphere
2 or the Amer-i-cas /-k&z/ the lands of the western hemisphere
including N., Central, & S. America & the W. Indies
3 UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Judge Learned Hand was one of a number of famous and famously oddly
named jurists who loom large in American legal history. I would take
a wild guess that his name comes from the protestant/puritan hortatory
naming tradition, among names like "Humility", "Wholesome",
"Praise-God", "Faith", "Thankful", "Prudence", "Charity", etc.

I do not know the home country of Alcoa, but it's name does not prove
it was not Canadian.

U.S. out of Brooklyn!
