This suggests a new economic possibility for e-texts -- product placement.
At the low price level, it may be just a passing reference. At higher
levels, it would be Hugo-esque asides extolling the value of certain
products. At best, you could allow your hero to accomplish their goals by
using the product, i.e. "thanks to her .45 Glock, the busty 14-year-old
biochemist was able to halt the gang of anti-nano bureaucrats."

I can't imagine bootleggers wishing to alter the original story just to
remove advertising, unless it too obviously has nothing to do with the story.
