Apart from the somewhat arbitrary "age of majority" and other related
issues, and the fact that we cannot be reasonably assured that the father is
not being coerced himself, and we can be certain that Elian will be, as is
every citizen of Cuba, this would be rather funny to watch, as the U.S.
Govco turned the issue tables on Castro, and he has to either back down on
the right to leave, which implicitly raises the question for the other
millions of Cubans - "but what about me?" - or admit that he is running a
tyranny, in which case there is a prima facia case for not returning Elian
to a hazardous situation.
