We had a flood at China Lake in 1984. They recovered a buuunch of
data from tapes that had been submerged in muddy water for three
days. They immerse the tapes in clean water to remove as much of
the particulates as possible, then freeze dry them by pulling a vacuum
and removing the water by boiling (or sublimation).
