Scientology claims that people are afflicted by defects called 'engrams',
which need to be removed by a process called 'auditing', so they can
become 'clear'. Auditing can take years and cost many thousands of
dollars. A more cynical view is that Scientology is intended to extract
as much money as possible from those gullible enough to believe in it.
