Others have made the standard comment that gravity puts a dent in spacetime
which doesn't go away. I think the more interesting (implied?) question in
Jeff's post arises when you start thinking of gravitation in terms of
exchange gravitons. These spin-2 particles would travel at light speed, and
are complementary to the wave formulation of gravity. So presumably we need
to imagine a graviton flux ceaselessly *created* at the event horizon (due
to the immense curvature) and sweeping outward into the rest of spacetime?
