Yes, psychology does seem to be interested in (recently) explaining laughter
as well as other positive emotions. That's why I wish psychologists were
working on AI instead of programmers and hard scientists.

I was thinking of the study of cognitive science & neurobiology, which seem
to be fascinated with inteligence and consciousness, but oddly indifferent to
emotions in general. ...but yes thanks for your thoughtful reply!
