Well, I don't think its "warped" per se. I think its genetic
perogatives that we would like to think we have "evolved"
beyond but in some cases have not.

Killing the babies is perfectly natural to a male lion taking
over a pride to get the females back into a fertile state.

Killing the children of a former husband is an entirely rational
thing for a "human" to do if they don't want to make the investment
in raising those children. However, in signing up for the marriage,
presumably you signed up (at least to some degree) in making the
investment in the children, so society frowns on this type of behavior.
