I usually call this group the "loyal opposition"... actually, that
refers to the supergroup that argues rationally, and is willing to put
"the facts" ahead of their particular side. (The acid test is linking
to an opposing point of view, or putting up your Web pages on the
CritLink system.) I don't know what I would call the bearer of an
opposing viewpoint who was smart and correct. "Leader" springs to mind.
