I have heard two conflicting versions on the origin of various strains
of bat rabies.
One states that, through the use of monoclonal antibodies, you can
determine a particular strain of virus as having come from a bat. There
is even a strain attributed to a particular species (silver-haired bat).
Others say that these strains of bat rabies are a "trash can"
collection, where virologists put them because they cannot truly say
where they are coming from. They only assume these to be bat rabies for
some reason of which I am not aware.
Which is true?
