I do not believe that the "more viruent takes over" theory is bound
to be the standard; the reason I believe that is the following: the
host population is never homogeneous (much less homogeneous than a
tissue culture flask anyway); either it is separated by geographical
grounds or it is segregated by the acknowledgement of the risks
(real or overestimated); therefore the more dangerous the virus the
more probable to burn out eventually. It therefore does not seem
necesssary to require a teleological position to explain a rather
obvious state of the matter. Critical comments wellcome.
