CMV promoter & human macrophages

Hi Beverley.
Yes the CMVie promoter works in human macrophages. Most studies have
used promyelocytic cell lines to study this, but there are a few studies that
have used freshly isolated macrophages. Your "someone" may be confusing
macrophages with monocytes, that contain a repressor of CMVie activity.
Monocytes can be infected, but need to differentiate before the promoter
becomes fully active. The repressor binds to the 21bp repeat, so I guess that
if this site is mutated, you could get a CMV promoter that works in both.
Hope this was useful.
