Mutagen question

last year in a genetics course, one of my professors mentioned that
a compound in mustard is also a potent mutagen and this compound is,
however, quickly detoxified upon consumption (in the liver?). Could
it be that some of this compound can be absorbed by the cells in the
mouth and that this could cause an outbreak of viruses which seem to
reappear after DNA is damaged (by UV light)?
just wondering...
