What's new in virus research ?

I just saw two alarming movies : OUTBREAK and TWELVE MONKEYS. I know 
this is farfetched, but I would like to know what are the viruses that 
have been discovered or invented in the the last 5 years. Do not try to 
reassure me I'm a science student and I'm not paranoid (so far)...
