Perhaps to be on the safe side you have consulted with a veterinarian, and
investigated whether your pet bat was or wasn't a rabies carrier. Actually
rabies is quite a serious disease. Even under the most perfect circumstances
accidents (bites) can occur. Bats have garnered a bad reputation in the past,
and there are conservationist groups that are now trying to turn this around
(try national geographic, 1995), but they have the potential to be rabies
carriers. You know in the northeast just the site of a noramlly nocturnal
animal during the day is reason enough for an animal control specialist to
dispose of that animal. It is easy for a veterinary professional to determine
if your pet has rabies, you could have saved yourself a hassle and perhaps
some grief for your pet bat.
