I am posting a query in reference to current methods used in the identi-
fication of enteroviruses. We currently isolate enteroviruses by inoculation
of monkey kidney and MRC-5 cultures. Presumptive enterovirus isolates are
sent to the state lab for serotyping. Final identification is a long process
and even the initial presumptive isolation in culture is not rapid. What are
others doing? Is there an accepted RT-PCR method that has been compared with
TC isolation? Any info and comments welcome.
