HCV and PCR testing

I've recently been confirmed as a HepC carrier via PCR testing. Problem
is, I don't know exactly what that means. The doctor expressed my test
results as 5.5 "something" (would that be pg/ml, or what? he mentioned
pico-blah, blah, blah, but spoke so fast on the phone I couldn't quite
catch what he said) I'm not into microbiology or virology, so if you can
respond to my question in lay terms, I'd appreciate it....
