I suspect he was deliberately vague about the location of the building,
this being the litigious society it is. He probably mentioned Route 7
because it figured in the travel plans of the Army folks that came down
from Frederick.
Before Preston's book, there was a lengthy article in, I believe,
Atlantic Monthly. Probably the most powerful article I've ever read.
I recall finishing the article, then driving over to Isaac Newton Square
at 11:30 pm on a moonlight night to walk around the area.
I work nearby and frequently stop by to see the status of things.
About 6 months ago, the place was unlocked, but I wasn't ready to
get arrested for trespassing. They've since locked it up, boarded
up the broken windows in the back, and put up a construction fence.
Probably to keep out the curiousity seekers..
At Preston's book signing at the Little Professor book store, I asked
him if he would go inside the building if got a chance. "Oh, yes,"
he said quickly, then paused, and said "Of course, if I had permission
from the owner."
May have to make a "Run to the Border" (the Taco Malo across Wiehle
where the Army folks got their food during the cleanup exercise..)
on Tuesday the 30th and stop by to see what's happening.
