Hmmm...I was under the impression that Ty elements DO produce
intracellular virus-like particles since this was employed by Don Ganem's
group to express duck hepatitis B virus reverse transcriptase; they
substituted the endogenous RT ORF of Ty with that of the DHBV and found
that the enzyme was encapsidated by 
Ty-A (the structural protein).
