You might be surprised, but you have to remember that medical 
personal are looking for something that will cure the patient that 
they will see today.  However, most would be very interested in the mass 
production of clinical drugs in a near by field of plants.  You are 
right in that most do not look at science as the fix for disease X 
tommorrow, but do realize that it will filter into the clinic in a 
matter of years!  It must start somewhere, and that is what basic 
science is establishing?
