EBOLA - ZAIRE: UPDATE
=====================
WHO spokesman Thompson Prentice in Geneva said on 17 May "We now have a
total of 101 confirmed cases. We are looking at a significant increase in
the known proportions of the epidemic over the next 2 or 3 weeks. We will
probably be reporting a considerable increase in cases by Friday."
No cases yet in Kinshasa, but 4 hospitals are being prepared to take cases.
Hundreds of fugitives from the outbreak are arriving at the roadblocks on
the road to Kinshasa.
Thailand joined the list of countries which have stopped issuing visas to
Zaireans. CNN Headline News reports that a man who arrived at the
Toronto, Canada, airport on 17 May from Zaire has been quarantined for 21
days, although he shows no symptoms, because his mother died of Ebola last
week. - Moderator
