I would like to know if anyone out there is currently researching the HIV 1 RT
enzyme. I am doing a paper on this protein and a I am in the beginning stages
but am finding it a little difficult finding beginning research papers on
this.

I would like to know where this enzyme is originates. Is it naturally occuring
within the virus and then is released with conjugation? could it possibly be
a mutated form of another RT because there are conserved Asn.'s? could the
cell produce this protein in response to viral genome? What role does the
single Mg2+ play in the protein? How much could the crystal structure
(x-crystallography) differ from the structure in solution?; could the solvent
play important part in decreasing or increasing steric hindrance creating a
more optimal binding site?

These are just some of the questions that I have to tackle and would love any
help from good sources. I have been scanning Medline and Bio Resources and
have some good success but would like to here from first hand sources working
with this enzyme.

Finally, I can't seem to find the proposed structure of HIV 1RT submitted by
Dr. Steitz of Yale. If anyone can help me with this I only have 2 1/2 weeks to
complete this paper. Thanks very much.

PS. Please suggest papers to review that you might think would help. Please
email me as I don't get this newsgroup often. :-)
