To Tim:
To my knowledge, working with Junin virus requires level 3, but
not level 4 containment.
To Chuckles:
The reference cited by S. Godvin (Ullmer et al.) does not show
that DNA is infectious, but that copies of an influenza gene in a
bacterial plasmid can be expresssed in a mammalian host. This is not
"infection".
To the person who was concerned about the Baltimore strain of hantavirus:
This virus was isolated several years ago from rats, and has not
be strongly associated with any human disease - the virus currently
called Sin Nombre is a much more virulent virus for humans.
