Thanks for the references. Being a "lay person" I look forward to reading them.

Actually I don't believe the "The Hot Zone" or "The Coming Plague" were
marketed  (or generally percieved) as virology texts but as narratives of
events- one specifically about specific Ebola epidemics and the other
about microbial epidemics in general. As such I've found them very
interesting and informative. Especially for a "lay person". To call them
"pseudo science at best," in this light, seems a bit harsh, don't you
think? };->
