Ebola and Marburg are single-stranded, enveloped RNA viruses, negative
polarity, encoding a monocistronic polyadenylated mRNA. It encodes 7
proteins; a nucleoprotein, a glycoprotein, a polymerase and 4 undesignated
proteins. No known toxins are produced. Death is due in part to DIC and
focal necrosis of the liver, ovaries, testicles and kidneys. Lesions
appear to involve vascular endothelium. See C.J. Peters in Emerging
Viruses, Oxford Press, 93.
