Workers in the monkey house did seroconvert, one after a needle stick
injury and another apparently via the respiratory route. Also, the
virus appears to have spread through the Reston complex as monkeys inhaled
airborne particals. Furthermore, Reston, Zaire, and Sudan are all very
similar at the genetic level. And there is a surprisingly high level of
seropositivity to EBOV in central Africa, perhaps due to the presence of
less virulent strains of EBOV. Personally, I suggest it may be premature
to posit the equation African EBOV=non-airborne.
