Conspiracy Theory on Ebola outbreak & movie/TV release

Just to fuel the fires of my warped mind, I have been thinking quite
a bit about the timing of the current outbreak of Ebola-Zaire 
and the release of the book "The Hot Zone", and movies "Outbreak",
"Robin Cook's Virus" to the American media-enriched public?

It now seems that the current outbreak in Zaire has been going on since
at least January [ref http://www.uct.ac.za/microbiology/ebonew1.html].

What better way to introduce the public [American at least] to the 
possibility of global devastation [while providing 'happy' endings to
keep us pacified till the bloody end]?

Just a theory... or a VERY strange coincidence.
