Oligo detection of HCV

Greetings

I'm posting this for a collegue in our pathology department; does anyone
have an oligonucleotide design which is suitable for direct detection of
HCV in liver biopsy specimens (thin sections) or do people in the know
prefer to use RT-PCR in situ followed then by detection? Any direction
(references, pro's-con's by personal experience) would be greatly
appreciated.
