At the annual meeting of the American Society for Microbiology in D.C.
last month, Laurie Garrett participated in a conference call from Zaire
where she is/was covering the Ebola outbreak. At that time she said that
after approx. four passages through humans that the virus seemed to be
burning itself out. It seems that the virus became less and less virulent
with each new generation. At the time of the call, new cases were down
dramatically. Shortly after this, media coverage fell off, too.
