Recission Bill HR 1158

It is essential that everyone possible constact the white house by email,
fax, U.S. mail, or phone to ask President Clinton to VETO THE RECISSION
BILL called HR 1158.  This bill seeks to sneak past the president's veto
pen a number of riders that would: 

1) allow logging without laws and increase logging to 6 billion board feet
of lumber a year in OUR National Forests (they are NOT the lumber
company's).  The effect of this would be to eliminate roadless areas and
essentially eradicate large trees throughout the U.S.  It would suspend
all environmental laws, administrative appeals, and judicial access. 

2)  It would zero funding for the US Fish and Wildlife endangered species 
listing and enforcement, essentially gutting the Endangered Species Act.

3)  It would force the Forest Service to reissue grazing permits that are 
up for renewal with no consideration of ANY environmental law, especially 
NEPA which requires public comment and review (the Republican Congress is 
seeking to silence the public which overwhelmingly supports protecting 
the environment and limiting grazing).

4)  A slew of other amendments and riders would bar the federal 
government from identifying wetlands under the Clean Water Act, bar the 
EPA from listing new superfund sites (I bet no Republican Congressperson 
lives in a superfund site or IT would be placed on the short list), 
prevent new conservation laws from going into affect in the Tongass 
National Forest in Alaska, and bar the government from conserving the 
sturgen fish in Alabama.

Please act now and write, call, fax, email the president AND your local 
representatives to demand that these anti-environment, anti-clean water 
riders be stricken from HR 1158.
