Certainly having a group specifically targetted towards methods would allow
those interested in technical and methodological aspects of the broader
subject of virology to communicate with each other. However, I am not sure
such a move is
really necessary. It is only when something sensational such as the Ebola
outbreak (occurring immediately following a sensational book and movie)
that the virology newsgroup gets overwhelmed by posts from the lay
public. Although the topics in the virology group do tend to stray from
the technical at times, I generally find the discussions useful
and interesting. I would prefer this to having to follow two separate
groups.
