The flockhouse virus of the Nodaviridae (bipartitite single
stranded RNA genome of 3.1 and 1.4 kb) is pathogenic to beetles
in New Zealand, can grow vigorously in mammalian as well as
drosophila cells, and can infect plants. See Selling, Allison
and Kaesberg in PNAS (1990) "Genomic RNA of an insect virus directs
synthesis of infectious virions in plants".
