graduate study in virology

I am nearly in the same boat. I am in the process of applyung to schools 
that I think are strong in Virology.  A good way to get a feel for the 
relative strengths and weaknesses is to speak to a virologist.  I spoke 
to a mentor of mine, he was teaching my advanced virology vourse here at 
Penn and suggested several people to contact within his field.  Also, 
getting graduate brochures to the schools and contacting the virologists 
(ESPECIALLY THE STUDENTS) has helped greatly.  Now I must convince them 
to let me in.
