Hantavirus is one of five genera of the family Bunyaviridae.
All other genera are arthropod-borne viruses (arboviruses).
Quite a bit is know about many members of what is the largest
family of viruses (by number).
These viruses have single-stranded, negative sense RNA genomes
divided into three segements. The nucleocapsids are helical and the
viruses are enveloped. The members of this family (except for
the genus which infects plants) cause encephalitis or hemorrhagic
fever. The virus which was first isolated in the Southwest
(Sin Nombre virus) is unique in that it causes a pulmonary
syndrome.
I' sure there are others who participate in this news group who can
add more information.
