Flu vs meningitis

What are the differences in early symptoms and the timing of
their onset between flu and meningitis?  

Does a splitting headache (coming from the neck at the back)
indicate one or the other?

The particular flu strains in this part of the world are: 

A Johannesburg 33-94 (H3 N2)
A Singapore 6-86 (H1 N1)
B Beijing 184-93

Can you catch flu from someone who has just received flu shots
and is exhibiting flu symptoms?
