POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS
in VIRAL RNA REPLICATION AND GENE EXPRESSION
Applications are invited for postdoctoral positions to study the molecular
biology of RNA-dependent RNA replication and gene expression in
positive-strand RNA viruses.
Successful applicants will join a diverse group of researchers in genetic
and biochemical studies of the functions and interactions of viral and host
factors in RNA replication. Significant experimental opportunities are
available in several distinct areas.
These studies use well-developed model systems based on the bromoviruses,
which share conserved RNA replication genes with a wide range of animal and
plant viruses. Excellent genetic and biochemical resources for in vivo and
in vitro studies of bromoviruses are available. A number of experiments,
including identification of relevant host factors, are being facilitated
further by our recent finding that bromovirus RNA replicons can replicate
and express foreign genes in yeast (Janda and Ahlquist [1993] Cell
72:961-970; Quadt et al. [1995] Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 92:4892-4896).
