Prion diseases

	All of you interested in the causative agents of prion diseases:  
read: "The Prion Diseases" by Stan Prusiner in Scientific American,
January 1995, p. 48, which is the most up-to-date, authoritative, and 
admirably written account of the present state of the prion concept. 
Another piece of "evidence" for the doubters that the prion has now entered
the mainstream of scientific thought: Tomorrow, Dr. Prusiner will deliver the
prestigious Paul Ehrlich Lecture at the NIH!
	Best indication for the acceptance of a formerly ridiculed, unorthodox  
concept is its acceptance by the most vociferous opponents by now 
claiming that it is, after all, nothing new or that it was really THEY who 
first discovered it. And, by the way, forget spiroplasmas as the 
causative agents of prion disease (Ian York is quite
correct with his doubts!}.
