What is a titer?

A titer is merely a term used to describe the concentratrion of a substance 
in solution.  It is usually expressed as a reciprocal and is commonly used 
to describe a concentration of antibodies in serum.  For example, if an 
antibody dilution of 1:1000 gives a positive test and greater dilutions give 
a negative test, the titer is 1000.
